Coalition Updates

URGENT MEMBER ACTION ALERT

Last week, the Kansas House of Representatives attached an amendment to the state's annual budget bill that would set a terrible precedent by defining lifesaving SCNT stem cell research as "human cloning."

This amendment was developed by Rep. Kinzer and other stem cell research opponents who want to ban SCNT stem cell research and cures in Kansas. The Kinzer amendment would take the first step in that direction by banning any state funding for SCNT research. In reality, no state funds are being used to support SCNT research and no one is asking for any such funds. The real purpose of the Kinzer amendment is to get a law passed that defines SCNT as human cloning -- which it is not. SCNT is a way to make lifesaving stem cells in a lab dish. It is not the same thing as human cloning.

We are asking our Coalition members to email or call your state Representative and Senator today or tomorrow and urge them to OPPOSE the Kinzer amendment that was added to the state budget bill (House Bill 3021). Tell your legislators that you are one of their constituents, that you strongly support stem cell research -- and that you want them to work to remove the Kinzer amendment from the final budget bill.

Find contact information for your state Senator or Representative.

Thank you.
